If you haven’t claimed your GBP yet, that’s step one. Go to business.google.com, search for your business, and follow the verification process. Google typically verifies through a video recording, phone call, or postcard. Until you’re verified, your listing won’t rank — period.
If you’re already verified but still not showing up, the issue is almost certainly in how your profile is built out, not whether it exists.
Complete every single field in your profile
Google uses the information in your GBP to determine relevance. Missing fields mean missing signals. Work through every section: business name, address, phone, website, hours, category, services, attributes, and business description. Nothing should be left blank.
Your business description is especially important — it’s one of the few places you can use natural language to tell Google what you do and where you do it. For a Royal Oak business, that means specifically mentioning Royal Oak, and ideally nearby cities like Berkley, Ferndale, and Birmingham where relevant.

At minimum, your homepage should clearly state what you do, who you serve, and that you’re based in Royal Oak — with natural mentions of nearby Metro Detroit cities where appropriate.
